Conservation Outreach

Posted by   on: March 25th, 2011

The Southeastern PA RC&D Council is reaching out to farmers of: small, organic, transitioning to organic, specialty crop, and livestock in the region, to let them know about the many programs available through the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service. To achieve that goal, and to encourage traditionally underserved farmers, the Council has hired a consultant.

Ian Phelps, a long-time agricultural producer from Lehigh County, is available to meet with farmers in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, and Northampton Counties. Ian can explain the various USDA conservation programs and also assist farmers in preparing their applications to the programs. He is available to speak at group meetings and expects to sponsor several on-farm meetings to highlight some of the conservation work that can be done through the USDA-NRCS Conservation Programs.
